Over the last 25 years or so, the island of Sicily has transformed itself from an overgrown grape juice factory into a hotbed for cutting-edge, super-ripe, fine wines . . . and Colosi has been at the forefront of this movement. Now into the third generation, the winery today is led by Piero Colosi in collaboration with his father Pietro. Cantina Colosi is located on Salina, a small island in the Aeolian archipelago. Colosi occupies an area of the island recognized for both its orientation and for the physical-chemical nature of the soil whose volcanic origins are particularly suitable for vine cultivation. Their Salina Bianco is a 50/50 blend of Cataratto and Insolia; it has an elegant bouquet of ripe and exotic fruits and white peaches and is fresh and flavorful on the palate with a long mineral finish.
